HJC RPHA 70 motorcyle helmet – a review

Hello and welcome to Alex’s Blog,

The HJC RPHA 70 full face motorcycle helmet is priced from £319.99 – £359.99 and is available in a large variety of colours. The RPHA 70 is a best seller online and in our 30 stores nationwide – so why are they so popular?

The RPHA 70 is a truly versatile helmet. A combination of a superlight race helmet and a highly comfortable touring helmet, with all the features you would expect from a helmet purely designed for touring. This is the Rolls Royce of the sports touring helmets.  So, what does it have to offer?

The helmet is ultra-lightweight thanks to a P.I.M. Plus shell construction comprised of carbon fibre, aramid and carbon-glass hybrid fibre which gives an enhanced shock-resistant performance and has been engineered to enable the helmet to be equipped with an internal sun visor, while weighing the same as the track-focused HJC RPHA 11.

The HJC RPHA 70 comes in different shell sizes to give added aerodynamics and greater comfort and was developed in a wind tunnel for further streamlining. The internal sun visor is anti-fog coated and smoke tinted with a new deployment system at the base of the helmet making this easier to use whilst wearing gloves and whilst riding.

A wide aperture means the RPHA 70 has great visibility and the visor has a lock down fastener that can be locked with an easy to use small button, which is very handy on track days. This is also anti-fog and offers HJC’s RapidFire II Shield Replacement System which is a simple and secure visor ratchet system which gives ultra-quick, tool-less removal and installation for easy and quick operation. The RPHA 70 also comes with an anti-fog insert.

A multi cool interior with advanced anti-bacterial lining is not only detachable and machine-washable, but has an emergency removal system for ambulance crews, in case of an accident. This wicks moisture and breathes for quick drying and comfort – great when riding in all weathers and for long periods of time. Tweaks on the RPHA 70 shell have made the fit even better than ever before – this really is a comfortable helmet.

The ventilation system is superb.  The intake and exhaust of the top vent operate simultaneously for maximum air circulation and this has certainly been a massive plus point to all of our customers who recommend this to us. The airflow is fully controllable with use of switches for your own personal preferences, and these are very easy to operate in transit with your gloves on. Perfect.

The double D ring fastening system means you can use this on a track day, as well as being ultra-safe, and this comes with a 5-year warranty from HJC. There are also glasses grooves for the glasses wearers amongst you. There are also recesses for intercoms, which gives seamless installation without bulges or discomfort. The RPHA 70 also comes with a removable nose guard and adjustable (and removable) secondary chin skirt.

The RPHA 70 really is a perfect combination of comfort and practicality. It comes in a broad choice of colours which really do cater for pretty much most tastes, from the more modest plain colours to more ostentatious designs.

We had big discussions about this at J&S HQ with our staff who deal with these helmets day in and day out and the only real criticism we could come up with on the RPHA 70 is that the internal sun visor mechanism, even though it is in a new and improved place for whilst you are riding, it is right where you would put a universal clamp on intercom, so you’d have to move the intercom towards the rear of the helmet. If that is the worst thing you’ve got going for you then you’re doing ok!

Until next time, stay safe,

Alex
